Located in the heart of historic downtown, Cauffield Hardware offers a wide variety of plumbing, electrical, and home improvement supplies, along with pump and plumbing services for today’s homeowner, handyman, and building contractor. Through the hard work and dedication of our staff and the loyalty of our customers, we have been able to meet the ever-changing needs of the community we serve.

Ken and Betty Cauffield started the store in 1965 in downtown Lake Placid, building the business by meeting the needs of the community. Ken was also a plumbing and electrical contractor and provided new construction and repair services in those fields.  

A third generation of the family took the reins when Trevor and Marjorie Cauffield took over the store in summer of 2022; Trevor has worked at the store since middle school, and in 1993 began working full-time alongside his dad, Lex, learning pumps and electrical work. As the third-generation team member and now owner, his time spent here in his younger years prepared him for overseeing the operation today. To this day, we are guided by Ken’s words, “If you are honest and treat people right, they will continue to support you."
